While most of our products are made in one size, belts are made to measure and we'll need to know the exact length required.
This page should answer any general belt-related questions and show exactly how to measure an existing belt so we can ensure the right fit and that your new belt will look its best.
If you're still not sure about something, simply fill in the contact us form and we'll be happy to discuss.
The easiest way is to use your current belt and measure it. Jump to bottom of page for how to measure.
It's important your belt looks right so we make them to size. This means they have the correct length (no big flappy end bit) and have just five holes so they look neat and well-fitted. Regular shop-bought belts are more generic in size and therefore will never look as good as one which has been made to measure.
These are notoriously inaccurate so will not give you a correct measurement. Manufacturers typically under-size their trousers by a couple of inches.
This won't allow us to make a belt to an accurate length. We put the centre hole at your current waist size and add two each side (for feast and famine!). This range also allows for different thicknesses of trousers or shirts tucked-in/not tucked-in.
We don't mind! We work in both centimetres and inches.
All of our belts are made from one single, durable piece of leather. We don't use stitched or bonded layers (which fail quite quickly through use). Our Italian leathers are attractive, tough and age beautifully with a gentle patina. We can also supply buffalo leathers which have a more varied colour finish. We use Chicago screws, meaning they can be dismantled and reassembled should you ever wish to change a buckle.
We cut our belts from full shoulders (cow) or butts (buffalo). They range between 3.5mm and 4.0mm thick. We can usually cater up to 46 inches (117cm) in length. Width-wise, we cut to 39mm (+/-1mm) to ensure an easy pass through the buckles and belt keepers. We can make narrower or wider belts on request.
Our belts are made to last and we understand that people change in size and shape over time. There's always room for an extra hole (or two!) - and we don't charge for this (just postage).
We generally supply our own Lodge Serpent plate buckles or the more conventional pin type. We can also make belts to suit specific buckles.
Measure from the inside edge of the buckle to the centre of the hole you use.
In this example, the length is 90.5cm (35 5/8").
Measure from the centre of the pin on the buckle to the centre of the hole you use.
In this example, the length is 89.6cm (35 ¼").
